MOTIVATION: what it means to eat like a runner. With less than two weeks to the @INGNYCMarathon, I should be eating everything in sight — or should I?Back running my very first marathon in 2005, I ate everything! I figured I was burning endless calories so three plain processed bagels with Skippy peanut butter seemed normal, right? Wrong. As runners, we’re more strategic than that. We see running trails where most people just see roads. We see our weeks in running days and non-running days. And we see food as fuel. These days I know a lot more about running and nutrition because we ALL know a lot more these days about what’s really “food.” When we’re hungry our bodies are asking for nutrients — and not all so-called food offers that. When we’re running and training our body is constantly asking for food — but it’s not just calories it’s looking for. It wants highly nutrient foods. Lucky for us, those foods can be delicious, too. For a community of people who feel incredibly productive running in circles, imagine how productive it feels to not only eat a delicious meal, but one we know will fuel our goals, bodies and minds now AND later…score. So what to eat?!Recently I got my hands on the Runner’s World Cookbook for Runners, From morning smoothies to a “taste the rainbow” recipe guide to superfoods and veggies, there are tons of ideas that feed whatever your running needs — from new runners to veteran runnners and everyone in between. Recently I’ve been making asparagus, broccoli, sweet potatoes (my fav!), Brussels sprouts and tons of their smoothie recipes for the morning. It’s a gorgeous cookbook anyone who is running or wants to run (or even just wants to eat like a runner) should check it out.Remember, #foodisfuel, #eatrealfood and embrace the superpowers that super foods offer! #happyeatingsClick thru for more info on the cookbook! http://www.rodaleinc.com/products/books/runners-world-cookbook-150-ultimate-recipes-fueling-and-slimming-down-while-enjoying-every-bite

MOTIVATION: baby steps. Quitting all your favorite sweet, fatty or salty foods is just a ridiculous thing to even think about! But we can always make small tweaks to our daily diets to ensure we’re eating both the foods we love AND the very best quality version out there. Check out these 5 foods the author of this article quit when avoiding less than awesome sweets & sugars. Totally doable! #eatrealfood (via The 5 Foods I Banned When I Quit Sugar)
MOTIVATION: sugar vs. natural fruit sugars.
There’s lots of talk about sugar these days — as there should be — with huge amounts of sugar being unknowingly hidden in all kinds of store-bought food products, including YOGURT and TOMATO SAUCE. But what about sugar in fruit??
Yes there are natural sugars in fruit, but when you eat the entire piece of fruit, you’re also eating fiber and all kinds of antioxidants and nutrients that help your body digest the fruit and get all the magical benefits it provides.
So KEEP EATING FRUIT! It’s a great morning food, a great snack and a great dessert choice. Wanna hear what the @NYTimes has to say about it?? Click on through (and then grab a peach!)

LAST NIGHT’S DINNER: summer weekday edition.
HUGE summer salad of arugula, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion and mint with my mom’s signature herb vinaigrette (get the recipe here!). Corn and watermelon on the side. YUM.
**QUICK $$ TIP: When looking for watermelon, a small container of pre-cut watermelon cost $5 for just a handful of pieces. But a WHOLE GOSH DARN WATERMELON only cost $7! AND I got quite the workout walking it home! Double win.
What are YOUR favorite summer night dinner recipes??
